Come on Hollywood, another film based on a childhood toy? It’s even an anthropomorphic one that can’t possibly have a built-in-backstory. This sounds like an Onion story, but considering the kind of films that have been greenlit lately, it doesn’t seem as far fetched:
Tales of a Viewmaster movie have been floating around for a few days now, and I thought it was just the fevered imagination of Twitter. But no. Now it’s in The Hollywood Reporter. DreamWorks is talking to Mattel to acquire the rights to the toy, and has asked Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci “to do some Transformers-style magic on it.”
“Transformers-Style magic” might be the most redundant term I’ve heard. I can’t wait for a Viewmaster movie like Transformers — that might make me reconsider Revenge of the Fallen as my second worst film ever.
